Wichita Falls North Rotary Club and our partners
from the adopted Sheppard AFB Squadron
and the Rider HS Soccer team completed
its Labor Day Flag Launch this week.

We put up and took down 665 flags at residential homes in the subdivisions areas of Fountain Park, Edgemere, Quail Creek, Willow Bend  and Sikes Estates.  Each of members and partners devoted 2 hours putting up the flags in the morning to 2 hours in the evening taking them down.

The Club started the flag program in 1990.  And since that time it has been a major fund raiser supporting not only our partners but all of our community service projects as well. The revenue supports community service projects such as the Riverbend Nature Center, scholarships for a Midwestern State University students, funding for Scotland Park Elementary School needs the Buddy Bench project, Blood drives at Sheppard AFB, funds for our adopted squadron Christmas party, cash prizes for the 4-Way Speech contest and sponsored campers for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program.  This year we plan to continue supporting this initiatives to the degree that Covid 19 will allow the events to take place. We also make cash donations to the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank and Interfaith Ministries.  A new community service project we are considering is the Stranded Motorist Initiative in which we would reimburse deputy sheriffs who assist stranded motorists with gasoline and food using their own personal funds.

Our subscription renewals generally are mailed out in April.  Over the years the program has grown largely by of word of mouth.  Subscription cost to have a flag put up at your curb for each of 5 national holidays is $25.00 per year. For more information how you can be a subscribe, click here.
